WARNING – SCAM ALERT
It’s that time of year again when IRS scams are rampant. It’s always best to file early and don’t ever answer any email that comes from the IRS until after you’ve called them (look up the number in the phone book) to check and see if the email is legitimate or a fake.
The basics are the same:
-Never give out personal information, passwords or financial information in an email.
-If you’re not sure the email is legitimate, never click on any link in the email. It’s safer to just delete it, even if they tell you not to.
-When in doubt, use the phone to check with whomever says they sent you the email AND go find the phone number from a reliable source, such as a real phone book or an old bill or invoice. Don’t use any phone number that’s listed in the suspect email.
